Dubai’s bright red RTA buses are a common sight on the roads, and they’re about to become even more ubiquitous. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching five new public bus routes and upgrading nine existing ones to meet growing travel demand. Starting August 29, commuters and explorers in the city will have more options and better connectivity across Dubai’s neighborhoods. For residents and tourists alike, that means an easier time navigating the city without needing a personal car for every trip.

New Bus Routes in Dubai

Dubai is rolling out five brand-new bus routes to serve emerging hotspots and improve connections:

  • Route 31 – Links Dubai Outsource City and Dubai Silicon Oasis, providing a faster direct link between these two hubs. Buses will run roughly every 20 minutes during peak hours, so you can hop on frequently even at rush hour.

  • Route 62A – Created by splitting the old Route 62, this line will operate between Al Qusais Industrial Area and Al Qusais Metro Station, improving service in the Al Qusais area.

  • Route 62B – The counterpart to 62A (also born from the Route 62 split), running from Al Qusais Metro Station to Ras Al Khor’s Samari Residences. It will come by every 30 minutes during peak times.

  • Route F26A – A new feeder route connecting Onpassive Bus Station to Al Quoz Industrial Area 4. This one is great news for workers and visitors in Al Quoz, as it will make getting around the industrial area easier, with buses every 30 minutes at peak.

  • Route X91 – An express service between Al Ghubaiba Bus Station (near the old town) and Jebel Ali Bus Station. Think of it as a faster version of the regular Route 91 – it skips the busy Business Bay Metro Station to save time. (If you do need to go to Business Bay, the normal Route 91 will still be running about every 30 minutes for that segment.)

Upgraded Bus Routes (Better Service on 9 Lines)

Along with the new routes, the RTA is upgrading nine existing bus routes to boost efficiency and coverage. Here’s a quick rundown of the improvements:

  • Route 7: This used to be a circular route, but now it’s being converted into a two-directional service between Al Quoz Bus Station and Al Satwa Bus Station. In plain terms, it will run back-and-forth between Al Quoz and Satwa, making it simpler to catch it in either direction.

  • Route 91: The regular Route 91 is being shortened to operate only between Al Ghubaiba Bus Station and Business Bay Metro Station. (As mentioned, the new X91 express will handle the farther leg to Jebel Ali.)

  • Route F62: Another former circular route now running two ways – it will go between Emirates Metro Station and Nad Al Hamar. This should make the route more direct and user-friendly for commuters in those areas.

  • Route 77: Converted from a loop to a two-directional line between Baniyas Square Metro Station and Al Garhoud. No more one-way circuit – you can now catch Route 77 going either direction on its path.

  • Route X25: This express route is trimmed down to run only from Al Karama Bus Station to Dubai Silicon Oasis. By shortening it, the RTA is focusing X25 on key stops and avoiding less-used sections, which should help keep it on schedule.

  • Route 50: Simplified for a more streamlined trip – it will continue to run between International City and Business Bay, but it will no longer detour into Dubai Outsource City. (The Outsource City area will instead be served by the new Route 31.) This change should make Route 50 a bit quicker end-to-end.

  • Routes 21A & 21B: Both of these are being shortened to only run between Al Quoz Bus Station and Al Ghubaiba Bus Station. Essentially, they’ll cover the same stretch in opposite directions, connecting Al Quoz and the Old Town (Ghubaiba) more directly.

  • Route J01: This community bus route will be adjusted within Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) for better coverage. If you live or stay in JVC, you should find it easier to get around the neighborhood and connect to other transit links after the tweak.

Why Is RTA Making These Changes?

So, why all these new routes and adjustments? In short, Dubai is growing – fast. The RTA is expanding the bus network to keep up with the city’s booming population and development. According to RTA officials, the agency is committed to developing bus services in harmony with Dubai’s population growth and urban expansion. In fact, public transport usage has been climbing: around 395 million riders used Dubai’s public transit in the first half of 2025, a roughly 9% jump from the same period the year before. With more people hopping on buses, it makes sense that more routes and more frequent service are needed.

Another big reason is better city connectivity. The RTA wants to make it as smooth as possible to get anywhere in Dubai on public transit. These bus updates are part of a broader plan to align with Dubai’s rapid growth and to integrate buses more closely with the Metro, Tram, and even marine transport systems. By linking up different modes of transport, the RTA’s vision is to make public transit the optimal choice for getting around town. (Imagine being able to switch from a bus to the Metro or a ferry with minimal hassle – that’s the goal.)

Great News for Residents and Tourists

All these improvements spell good news whether you call Dubai home or you’re just visiting:

  • For daily commuters: The new routes and upgrades should mean shorter travel times and less waiting around. Many of the new services will have buses every 20–30 minutes during peak hours, so you won’t need to clock-watch much at the bus stop. Converting loop routes into two-way lines (like Route 7 and 77) also means you can catch a bus going your direction without taking the long way around. Ultimately, a more efficient bus network can ease traffic congestion over time, making everyone’s commute smoother.

  • For tourists and explorers: Dubai’s public transport will now reach even more corners of the city. This makes it easier (and cheaper) to sightsee and access key attractions or emerging districts by bus. Want to check out the bustling markets around Ghubaiba, the offices in Silicon Oasis, or new spots in Jumeirah Village Circle? The expanded network has you covered with more direct links. Plus, new and improved routes are threading through growing residential and industrial areas, adding stops in developing communities to create better connectivity in those neighborhoods. It’s a win-win: you save money on taxis and get to see the city from a local perspective on the bus.

And while Dubai’s buses, metro, and trams can take you almost anywhere, sometimes you might crave a bit more flexibility – say, a late-night drive or a trip to a desert camp where public transport doesn’t reach. In those cases, you can always rent economy car Dubai as a convenient complement to the public transit network. Having your own set of wheels when you need them (at an affordable rate) combined with an ever-improving public transport system gives you the best of both worlds.

In short, the RTA’s new bus routes and upgrades are making it easier than ever to get around Dubai. Whether you’re commuting to work or exploring the city’s sights, you now have more choices to travel comfortably and efficiently. So go ahead – tap that Nol card, grab a seat on a bus, and enjoy the ride (and if you feel like taking the driver’s seat for a weekend road trip, you know you’ve got options for that too!).
